Shoreditch Recording Works is an independent studio, founded by composer Dominik Scherrer and opened in Spring 2025 in a converted Victorian warehouse at Perseverance Works, off Hackney Road. The building was a Buddhist meditation centre before it was a studio, tucked into a private courtyard a few minutes from Old Street and Hoxton.

It was built to a specific brief: room for a string section of fourteen players, and acoustics good enough to mix in. Most studios in the area are set up for one or the other. Rather than splitting the space into a small control room and a separate live room, it was built as one large room that works for tracking, writing and mixing alike. A second live area next door takes double basses, drums or brass, and with the doors open you get separation that still sounds natural. The construction was carried out by Miloco Builds, with acoustic design by Nick Whitaker.

The Team

Perseverance Works is a group of old industrial buildings set around a courtyard just off Hackney Road. Every unit is a creative business, from designers and makers to artists and small independent studios.

The way in is through the lane off Hackney Road, which opens into the central courtyard. Vans can pull up close to the building, and there's a lift up to the studio, so loading in drums, amps or a full band's worth of gear is straightforward.

Hackney Road runs between Shoreditch and Hackney, and the streets around it are still full of independent studios, galleries and music businesses. Columbia Road and its Sunday flower market are a couple of minutes' walk away, and Old Street and Hoxton stations are both within ten minutes. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby for a break or after a session.
